Eppo Harbrink Numan - at age 48 jaar - Stornoway Schotland 1989

ENTREPRENEUR - ARTIST / DESIGNER - AUTHOR - AVIATION PIONEER

Short Introduction

A multi-talented and colourful personality, who at a very young age tenaciously kept looking for solutions where others stopped looking, at times temperamental, rebellious and emotional, for some hectic and headstrong; for friends and those who know him practical and extremely creative, possesses an uninhibited imagination and philosophies in depth about all aspects of life and beyond. A strong willed visionary and one hundred percent straight forward.

Most of the time, while clowning around, talks way too much! Does however hear your every word, and besides is on to you as well. Gallantly takes all the time in the world to council you with your problems, or encouraging you to start your first business that you’ve dreamt about for so long.

A lazy bones, loafing around and seemingly an absolute good for nothing? At times! Still never ever underestimate the man. Once out of the starting gate he’ll still show most people his back side. But age is catching up with him. Does he accept it? Not really, though grudgingly at times! This charismatic gent still runs around, as always, with the next wild plan or adventurous scheme, even now!

Perfectionist? That ghastly word was invented by sloppy and lazy folk. Oh, and please don’t ever say: “don’t be such a restless busybody!” Our gent isn’t restless, our gent is lively! So watch your step!

Knocked about by life? You bet, like most of us. Did he recuperate? Not completely! He’s working on it.

There you go, the man in a nutshell!

Does he have a motto? - Absolutely!

It is of no importance what an individual or society in a given situation specifically wants or does not want!

It is of importance, considering the reality of a situation, what they should have done or avoided doing!

the grill at a comfortable working height

CHARCOAL OPENED ITS DOORS TO THE PUBLIC FROM 1970 UNTIL 1994

Charcoal hit The Netherlands like a bombshell. In a very short time it became nationally and interna-

tionally renowned. Because of its atmosphere, oddest of events happening, the mix of all social levels and

international clientele, it broke all turnover records. Anything imaginable, you name it, that absolutely

should NOT happen in a restaurant did! Anything imaginable that SHOULD happen in a restaurant also did.

It was as if FELLINI himself orchestrated the place hour by hour and day by day! For decades, it was

the busiest and most sought after place in the country. Charcoal wrote and rewrote history! .

This is the only remaining photograph of the Double Boiler

The Double-Boiler: was made out of four glass spheres filled with boiling hot water, wherein

four glass soup containers with brass lids lined up and displayed in the shop window.

1975 - 1978

Designed and built the notorious restaurant Bajazzo, where he introduced Nouvelle Cuisine to

The Netherlands. The culinary guidebook “Le Gault-Millault”, referred to Bajazzo as the Maxime of the Lowlands.

Note:

During a period of four years, Eppo collected a warehouse full of antiques and rarities, and designed one of

the most remarkable restaurants interiors of its time! He spent one year behind the drawing board, worked

during two years from eight in the morning till nine o’clock in the evening including the weekends to accom-

plish the construction.

Unfortunately, not all of his original design is left to be admired. Too many out of tune changes were made

by consecutive owners.
